I am quite lucky with our surgery, the majority of appointments are released for the same day so ring when they open but there are a limited number of pre-bookable appointments within the next 6 weeks.

These are released daily in batches so I can use the automated booking to find the next appointment, often if you try the next day you get one sooner!

If you want a specific Dr in advance it can mean ringing reception each day for 2-3 consecutive days until something becomes available on the system.

Have to say they are always good if you request a same day telephone appointment, they like you to request as early on the day as you can but if unable to not a problem.

There is no walk-in/open surgery facility nor can you book appointments online. The basic website went offline after not being updated for about 4 years.

So all done through the phone or in person.

If it's urgent I ring in the morning when I need an appointment that day. If important but not urgent and doesn't matter who I see I usually use the automated booking for next available appointments. And if it needs to be a certain Dr (non urgent) I attempt for several days to pre book via reception before giving up and ringing in the morning of the days I know he works.

    Thankyou
Am I? Maybe then you agree that it is acceptable to deceive a GP's surgery in order to get a sick note by lying about the motive. Maybe the delays that I have had to suffer could have been caused by the likes of Cattie and yourself - a sick note is far more important than tests and consultation for Bowel Cancer??

Now I understand why you are so intense about things. I am very sorry to hear you are going through that. If you read my other comments you would see I don't go in the surgery unless they force me to.
The other point was that anxiety is an illness. I do not advocate making things up to get in at the the Drs.
If I was the O.P. I would have emailed in by now, or would have requested a telephone appt.

I was wondering how long it took to get your test results.

From the first discovery of my tumour to the letter telling me it was benign took 7 months, is that typical? I tried emailing the DoH to see if they have any targets, but didn't really get an answer.

I hope all is going as well as possible for you.

But receptionists aren't medically trained. I also don't want to discuss my personal medical issues with a receptionist who decides how much of an emergency it may be.

Thankyou for your concern. Blood results came back within 24 hours, scan took 4 days, consultant to review took just over a week to report to GP which was on the 11th March and I have to see the surgeon this Thursday. Hopefully I should be in hospital sometime next week. All in all it will have been nearly 5 weeks from first suspicions to going under the knife.
Don't waste your time, this is DEFINITELY Andy yet again.

I could be misinterpreting your comments, but you seem to be suggesting that these older people aren't entitled to a health check and that prevention is not better than cure...?

Not at all, but a well-run service contemplating major expansion (in this case the medicalisation of a greater sector of the population) would ensure that its resources were adequate to cope with the greater workload.

Andy, I really can't see what you get out of playing these 'games'. Many people on here, even those who are unwell themselves, willingly spend time giving information and advice to those who need it. All you acheive is to use up time and energy that could be better spent elsewhere. You also make people very cynical and distrustful of new posters whom they suspect of being an alter ego of yours. Surely you could actually be having a life of your own rather than winding people up on here (and other fora)?
