I have a simple philosophy:
Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches.

Not a brand new car for one. Get a nearly new one.0

280 would be the Maxmium Loan repayment for me.... Bit I don't do finance.0

50% to finance a current one
50% to save up for the next one to pay in cash
Then 100% buy a better next one.0 -
Its more or less what I am paying for a mk7 Golf 2.0 TDI on lease hire.
Brilliant car, cant fault it!0 -
Tbh, if I didn't need a huge car, I'd get a Hyundai i10. About £140 or so a month with no deposit, and a five year warranty.
However, it depends on what size car you want and the deposit. You could get a Skoda Octavia for under a hundred and fifty quid a month.0 -
Buy one for £500 with 12 months ticket, thats two months allowance, and save the rest for the odd repair and for next years £500 jobbie if this one fails the MOT on too much.0

Try this :
£280 on a banger from the paper with 3 months MOT.
Weigh it in after 3 months, and get £150
Add the £560 saved to the £150 = £710
Buy another banger with 12 months MOT and Save the £280 a month
Make that Car last 2 years
At the end of 2 years you've saved £6600
Spent £1000 on another car. and keep saving.
After 5 years you've saved £15K plus
If you don't believe this:
in 2010 I wrote off an old astra, and a mate at work told me about a woman in another office selling a Volvo S40 for £350. It lasted 6 months before the gearbox went and I sold it to a Volvo Specialist for £250. I replaced this with a cavalier costing £400 which I sold for £200 last may to buy a mini cooper (lets not talk about that, but it was for my wife)
Last week my mate was talking about spending £1750 on a Rover 25 (No really). I pointed him in the direction of an immaculate 2.0 51 Reg Honda accord for £720. It's got high miles, but it will last 3 years.0 -
Some people actually enjoy driving new cars and Martin Lewis, money saving motto was always about getting the best of what you wanted for the lowest price possible.
Not everyone wants to drive a £500 banger, there's nothing wrong with having a new car if you can afford it and get enjoyment from it.0 -

Someone has to buy new cars, so that I can drive them 15 years later :rotfl:
Since I've been alive my dad, has always bought new cars, although 50% of them were company cars.
He recently spent £18K on a Focus. Nice car, but IF I could afford and justify £18K I'd end up buying a £50K car, that was 5 or 6 years old.0
