Parking - what is reasonable to expect of neighbours?

Thee "In constant use 24-7" IS so you can access your gate & garage at any time you feel like it, so I would go for one of those signs.

I wouldn't bother being so nice about it, they know they are being dicks parking over your gate & garage, anyone knows that it isn't right.

I have a recessed space in the unmade road behind my house, it comes with my property but 2 people would park in it, even with a private parking sign. I tried putting nice notes on their windscreen but to no avail, so I bought a sheet of stickey paper, cut it into large squares & when they parked next, stuck it over their drivers side windscreen with a "This is a private parking space, you have been asked on numerous occasions not to park here & there is a clear sign so do not park here again otherwise another note like this will be left " note on it.

Funilly enough I only needed to do that on each car once. I do wonder how long it took for them to pick the note off their windscreen though :D
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Thanks for all of the responses.

The house has been empty about 72 hours!! 5 people lived there up until Friday but we are taking our time moving in.

I think I'll leave it for a week and see if it is a regular occurance as the car was only there for a couple of hours on a sunday. If so, I'll put a sign up. The road is pretty empty during working hours - its only at weekends/evenings that there's only a couple of spaces left. It's a small town so I don't want to get shirty with neighbours unless they are continually taking the mickey with parking over the garage.

A friendly word might be all that is needed.

You'll soon find out if the car belongs to someone on the street or a visitor. As you are only talking about a foot or so of overhang, making the point the drive/garage is in use should do it.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

I'd also try the sign route, or a friendly word if you saw them doing it, but good luck whatever you do as some people are purely ignorant and don't give a toss.

Our neighbour's mother liked to block our car in, we asked her to move it as OH wanted to go out, so she did begrudingly and then as he left reversed to block the drive again, then started swearing and going off that there was nowhere to park despite there being a road full of parking spaces less than 10 meters away. Some people are allergic to walking extra, or simply from breaking a habit that hasn't previously put people out but will now!

Thanks - its a bit bizarre as the nearest houses are 1) neighbour in our terrace (which is round the corner on the other side of the front of our house - they tend to use up the parking at the front of the houses) 2) neighbour also on the corner of the next terrace opposite the road from us - they have a similar long side with free parking so unlikely to overflow to us 3) terrace down the side road which is the other side of our garage then an alleyway, then parking infront of their houses which are only one side of the road - they have a complete other side of the road free as this is all one big long garden.

So I'm hoping its only really overspill from visitors who didn't notice rather than someone who would regularly make the choice to park there!

Parking cars is the one thing that is sure to start a war between neighbours, I had this misfortune many years ago when someone constantly and deliberately blocked access to my garage, this was a communal driveway and I solved it only by moving house, a bit drastic I admit. From that time on I swore I would never have a shared access to anything and I never have. Good luck, it sounds a little bit like bad parking by a visitor.
