New user account on pc

I am running vista on an old desktop and have two users set up on it. Recently a third user has appeared "user tkntvxcitxbu"
I deleted the account but it re asppears on start up every time.. I ran a scan with eset which came back clear. Would a normal windows process set up an account and is there anyway to stop it reappearing?

    Have a read of this
    http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/281084-unknown-user-account-windows-login.html

It suggests it's actually Eset that is causing this, as part of some security measure?

Just in case, If you haven't already, I would download and run the free version of Malwarebytes, just to make sure it's not anything malicious.

  • Great reply eb,
Interesting stuff. I have already run malwarebytes and found nothing but given the information youve found i will drop an email to eset. they are normally good at responding to such questions

I have Avast antivirus, and I'm sure Avast did something similar a while back?
The extra user was supposed to be hidden, but after an update it appeared on the logon screen.
I think it was fixed in the next update?
(it was a couple of years ago, so my memory may be playing tricks)
  • Just had a reply from eset, It is indeed a phantom account set up by eset as part of their anti theft service. phew..
