Sydney Harbour Bridge

Me and my b/f are going travelling around the world for 3 months next year. I'd love to go on/over the sydney harbour bridge - has anyone got any cost cutting ways of doing this?

cheers in advance

Save up and do it, it is well worth it, I've done it, pay for the photos as well, if you do it near the end of the day you'll see the city lit up.

I didn't bother with the official bridge climb thing...climbed to the top of one of the towers for an almost identical view, and for about $160 less!

  • It depends if you want the view, or the accomplishment I guess.
I did this in Oct 05, with 5 other mates, and 1 person we didn't know (7 in a group). I think we tried to get cheaper, but they don't budge, from what I remember. Maybe it's possible to get a small discount on a group of 7? Although if that were the case, I'm sure we would have abducted someone to reach the discount!

We decided to do it though, as it is one of those things that you can tick off in life and be proud of with warm fuzzy memories! you go through quite a bit of safety stuff and have to gear up with all their suits and bits and pieces, that are all attached to you- because if anything fell off the bridge from that height, it would cause a lot of damage. So you cannot bring ANYTHING else with you. Inhalers etc go to the person who is leading you if I remember correctly. They are very strict and rightly so.

If you can do it, do. You enjoy your food more after something like too!

My OH & I did the climb in November 06 - highly recommend it. It's cheaper to do it Mon-Fri as there is slightly less demand, also the daytime climbs are cheaper than the twilight or dawn trips. Popular times often get booked up week ahead - we booked only a day in advance and did it at 7.30am on a Sunday - the only time left for that day.

You need to allow 3 hours for the walk - it takes almost an hour for the safety briefing and "dressing up" etc, but once you are up there, the time will fly.

As others have said go during the week and daytime

Possibly do the pylon lookout (2nd post) first, you can watch the bridge climbers and get as good a view AND take your own pictures.

The actual climb is very easy and the guide gives a good commentary.
