Letters and calls about PPI: are they genuine?

Last year I kept receiving automated phone calls on my mobile phone about my PPI and also received a couple of letters from MBNA about PPI with long questionnaires (I used to have MBNA cards which were replaced by others').
I tried to contact the telephone number provided on one of the letters (0800 917 7981) several times but there was only a recorded message on the other line.
There were also automated telephone calls and texts saying that I might be due PPI money back.
As I did not know how to complete the questionnaires I've not done anything about it.
Most recently, I've received several calls once again from an automated recorded message saying that I should contact such and such but I can't never get anybody on the other line.
Are these genuine calls from credit card providers with whom I had signed up for PPI in the past?

The letter from MBNA is most likely genuine and is an invite to complain IF you feel you were missold PPI but you do need valid reason(s). It's also to set the time-bar clock ticking.
The phone calls and texts are ambulance chasers trying to sign you up. If you do engage with them, you still have to do all the work and fill in the "long questionnaires" which they then put in an envelope and post off for you. They then sit back and wait hoping they get lucky. They charge you a fortune for this "service" so you may as well do it yourself if you have any valid reason(s) for complaint.
Do you feel you were in some way mis-sold ppi?0 -
We all get spam text messages or pre-recorded phone calls. They are scams/spams.
However, MBNA may well have sent out a CCL on PPi like most lenders. They will be genuine.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Yes, since I was not aware that it was not really necessary, not for the way I use my credit cards (wisely!)
Can I still recover money that went to PPI? It won't be much, though, I think...0 -
That's quite a weak complaint as they wouldn't be aware how you'd use the card. Mis-bought as opposed to mis-sold? Do you have any stronger reasons?
If you usually cleared the balance each month, you're right, probably wouldn't be much even if the complaint was upheld.0
