Hi guys,

Was out in the garden this morning and had some identification issues on some plants/weeds and also a little hive of bugs:

1. Plant or weed?

2. Plant or weed?

3. Name the bug - found a whole load of these in the large pot that I grew my beans in last year.... should I be concerned? Will they cause any damage to my plants?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer kind people :j

  • I hate killing plants, even weeds! Unless they are ugly weeds, that is. I have some that look like No1, mine are bluebells but it's hard to tell at that stage.
I'm fairly sure that No2 is a foxglove.

As for the bugs, I can't kill any bugs at all - have to relocate them. Will be difficult this year, as I'm growing veggies for the first time and will be peeved if they are eaten before I can get to them!
  • No 1--bluebell, a bulb, will flower in a few weeks, looks established and healthy.
No 2--foxglove, very healthy plant. Will grow tall and probably purple-ish, enjoy! NB all parts of this plant are poison- but only if eaten!
    can't identify the bug, sorry

I think it's a wireworm, larvae of the click beetle. They like eating potatoes but any roots will do.
  • Thanks guys - if the plants are bluebell and foxglove then I certainly won't be getting rid of them although may want to move them if possible.

Thanks for the help on the bug IHS - had a look at some pics online and it does look similar but i'm not certain it is either... hmmmm. If it is wireworm, how would I get rid of them?

  • The pest could be leatherjacket grub. I had theses last year eating our lawn.

From the photograph of the bug I can't tell what it is but the good news is that it does look like you will be having a long life.;)
