Free energy if not received a bill in 12 months?!?

Hello, I have been chasing npower for 10 months now to accept the meter readings I have been sending them. When I last phoned them in jan-14 they said that they haven't billed me in 12 months so I will get free energy until I receive my next bill and now it's 2 months later and not received a bill so do I carry on assuming I get free energy or switch to a cheaper tarrif as my contract is now up? Does anyone know if I really do get free energy or have I been miss informed by npower?

Regards
Andrew

No, if the back billing code applies then they cannot bill you more than 12 months in arrears.

The 12 months back-billing agreement, is counted back from the date when the supplier did manage to send you a bill.
    BUT
If you have been paying in D/Debits in the meantime, the value of the credit you have built up will be deducted from the bill when you finally get it, before 12 months back-billing is applied to the balance

What SSE do (quoted in another thread) is that any DDs that predate the 12 moth bill are deemed to be settlement for that period and the DDs for the period of the bill count against the bill.

  • its quite possible thats its free as British gas gave me 3 months free electric when my meter broke and i informed them but they couldnt get out to fix it till 3 months later so didnt bill me for what id used ,

this is slightly different but i did get free energy when they said i would

    Interesting, please elaborate.

Does that mean if you'd been paying £200 a month and usage was only £100 they keep the "change"?
