He has loads of disposable income. Do you think it would be unfair for me to ask him to take on a 2nd job to help out more?

Would you be happy working 60hrs a week?

I DO work 60hr weeks. They're not nice at all and you basically get up go to work, come home, shove your tea down your throat and go to bed 5 days a week. Saturday is spent recovering.

But hey, if you want to stick the knife in.....

Maybe i should explain a bit better about my situation

My husband is currently suspended from work on full pay and has been since 1st April this year. It is unlikely that he will be back at work before October, hence my suggestion about him getting another job.

Back when he was suspended at first, i sent his CV to a few places in the hope that it would get us some extra money to make a dent in our joint debt.

As your comment about working 60 hours a week, well he didn't seem to mind when i was working 57 a week while he sat at home watching sky sports.

I worked full time mon - fri then 20 hours at the weekend in a call centre to allow us to pay for our wedding. He also didn't think twice about me going to work in a chip shop 6 weeks after giving birth by emergency section. I am allowed to work 10 hours total while i am on maternity leave. that is 10 hours in 6 months. I have been working 2 shifts a week since March and he has not thought twice to tell me to stop and that he will take on a second job.

Also, i did a car boot and spent all the profit on a lousy flippin golf club at £83.

I understand that everyone has a unique situation and that since you didn't know the ins and outs of mine you felt you had to pass judgement. I hope that now you know my full situation, you will understand why i will ask him to get a second job.

I don't think it's fair for people to work 60 hours a week - it is not family friendly and it tires you out however in some cases - needs must

I've been having a think and want to know if this makes sense or not.

If i pay off my barclaycard in full with the money i have, phone them and ask them if their balance transfer rate will be lower than the normal APR, then transfer my next account to Barclaycard meaning i am paying less overall.

At the mo i am paying Next with an APR of 26 something and barclaycard at 21 something (don't have the figures to hand)

If i clear BC, ask them to have a rate of say 16% (is this really high - i have a terrible credit rating so they might laugh at me for asking) thenb i will be saving over all.

I was also thinking that i can take some of DH old PS2 games to GAME and sell them on.

Well he did spend my car boot money without asking so it's payback time.

HeadOTS, (had typed HOTS but thought that might be a little too risque:o

It sounds like a plan to me:rotfl: They can only say yes or no. I'd be really cheeky and ask them to take it right down to 5 or 10% for life of balance or something! Either take the old PS2 games to game to sell them on, or check out what you could get for them on ebay (and anything else that isn't tied down):D

Good luck and keep us posted!

I'm going to do a 'don't get done - get dom' trick and ask them to make it very, very low making anything between 10% - 15% a bonus.

Anything has to be better than the 26% odds that i am paying on next at the moment.

I also got a shift in the chip shop last night so that was another £2 coin to the tub and £30 to my debt bundle.

Also got a coupke of Ciao surveys so that's bumped my 'wages' up on there too by £2

Downside - checked my Quidco earnings and one of my 'tracking' payments has dropped from £82 to £55 which is a bit of a bummer. It was a phone contract on behalf of my sister so technically i shouldn't have it anyway but it still counts.

Also got invited out by friends tonight but i have convinced them to come here and watch my DVD from lovefilm which i got from my free trial via quidco (an extra £14.50).:T

Got a phone call from my boss asking me if i can go back to work in 2 weeks time as they are really short staffed and need mega help.

I think i will as i will get more pay plus OH is still suspended so he canbe my free childminder while i'm back.

He doesn't drive and would be living about 25 miles away. However....and wait till you hear this.......my very kind mother has invited him to move in with her and my dad to make things 'easier on him'.

Imagine that. It was him that chose to join golf over learning to drive so he should get the flimmin train.

I can't believe my mum has done this, but hey ho - her problem not mine. On her own back be it...

Hugs from me too. You shouldn't have to contribute to his petrol as he doesn't live that far from you. If he is contributing in any way to the mortgage the csa can take this into account though.

Well i called Barclaycard and my 'account manager' i.e - joe bloggs that jsut happened to answer my call - told me that my account doesn't meet the criteria for BT offers

He then went on to say that it will meet the criteria at the end of the month and that i will either be offerd 0% for 12 months with a 2.5% handling fee or 6% for life of balance which means i will pay

£40.50 on the 6% or £22.50 on the 0%

I am working this out on me paying £100 a month to the OS balance then.

On the plus side today i have

Been offered another shift in the chippy on Tuesday - £27.50
Won £10 on the lottery last night.:T :T I don't normally play and actually made a point of saying i don't believe in it 3 hours before buying a ticket

got another £2 to the tub

Have had a question on ebay from someone wanting to view my bridesmaids dresses - hope they don't read on here about my marriage bliss:rotfl: :rotfl:

Decided to go back to work - for the time being - to get some extra money

Did a naughty thing and told a certain dept store i was getting married so i could get the £50 voucher which i will keep till xmas

Set myself a date to get rid of as much debt as possible and it is.....,

March 2008

I want to have as much debt cleared before applying for a mortgage on my own.

Thanks to everyone for the support. Maybe not a lot of people will read my thread, but it is somewhere for me to write down what i am going to do and each reply give me that extra little boost.

Having a bit of a !!!!!! day so far and it's not even lunch time

Phoned the bak and it turns out i/we have £251.13 left and i have 2 DD still to come off.

OH has been lifting £50 out willy nilly leaving me only enough to pay DD for Council tax and my NEXT bill.

He isn't answering his phone so i'm guessing he knows i know.

Also phoned tax credits to chase up claim i sent away 3 weeks ago. Apparently it isn't registered so it has to be referred to someone and i'll have to submit another claim.

I haven't had money from them since mid May so i think i'll be owed quite a bit but i could do with it now.

Luckily i have £100 stashed away, have a shift tomorrow night then child benefit is in next tuesday.

Sounds like it might be time to open your own bank account. If yuo had a joint one where all your bills go out, you can pay the required amounts in there and then your money is off to one side and he can't touch it.

Sounds harsh, but needs must sometimes. Have a look at Alliance and Leicester as they do a really good interest rate and I think that are still doing a referral system so you and a friend/DFW both get £50 (at least I think they still are!) But Martin has some articles on good bank accounts. It might be an idea to have a look at them.
