ask council to set cctv

Good afternoon to everyone.
I would like to ask you guys whether is possible to ask the council to set public CCTV in my neighbourhood.
The reason why I'm asking this question is because in the past six months there have been several burglaries in my area. Sadly, the police doesn't seem to be able to either find people responsible of these acts.
A few weeks ago, some people set 2 cars on fire and they were about to set a third one but the owner came out of the house, the criminals managed to escape.
Considering the situation, it would be nice to have some public cameras pointing on the main roads.
do you think it's possible to make these type of requests to the council considering the circumstances?
Thank you

I would start by speaking to your local councillors and asking them to assist with this. I am sure they are already aware of the issues. Have you got a neighbourhood organisation? They could assist too.0

Thank you
I do not have a neighbourhood organization but we have been talking about this issue with the neighbour quiet a lot so I was thinking about writing to them and then if they didn't help then to involve the whole neighbourhood and ask to sign some sort of petition.0 -
Not really sure a petition would influence much. I really would speak to the local councillors. They have some clout with the Council0

You can ask as much as you want. Given that local authorities have had unprecedented budget cuts since 2010, you have very little chance of getting CCTV in your neighbourhood. If they put it in your neighbourhood, then every neighbourhood in the city will want it.
Realistically, you have little hope.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
With the local elections coming up soon some local councillor may get onboard0
