HELP! Locked out of e-mail Account

PLEASE can someone help me (I'm not too good with computers, although I AM security aware).
There have apparently been problems with someone trying to access my AOL e-mail Account (I only realized when e-mails sent to me were not accepted and someone notified me that they were being returned, with a message telling the sender that I was only accepting e-mails from specific e-mail addresses), and I was advised by AOL to change my password. Unfortunately I could not remember the correct answer to my Security question (Where were you born' - I could not remember if I had put street, local area, town ...
) and after 3 attempts I was blocked.
I cannot even gain access to the general 'AOL' page now, so how do I contact them to explain?
TIA

PS: Before being 'locked out', I went into my settings and found that - last Saturday - someone in the USA had tried to access my Account on 2 occasions.

Next time - don't give real information to questions like maiden name, where you were born etc as a lot of it can be found out by anyone.PS: Before being 'locked out', I went into my settings and found that - last Saturday - someone in the USA had tried to access my Account on 2 occasions.
Do you access any other email eg, hotmail, gmail through this accoun t ?Or vice versa - as sometimes this can show up as being accessed.
How are you accessing aol mail ? - I access through webpage mail.aol.com but don't see a setting option that shows when last accessed.0 -
Thank you so very much, Elektra.
I 'phoned the '0808' number and was eventually (after having to answer a lot of security questions, which was reassuring!) able to access my Account, having been allowed to select another personal reminder / security question, and being given another password, which I then had to change to one of my own selection ... and I took your advice to state 'false' information :T
In answer to your questions, I do not access any other e-mail via this Account, and I access my AOL by going to their webpage and clicking onto the 'envelope' symbol.
I was made aware of the attempted access (from the United States) when I went into my e-mail Account and selected 'Options' (on the right); 'Recent Activity' (on the left), and then checked the Date / Time / Location columns.
Once again, thank you for your time and trouble - it is appreciated.

That's great.
Glad I helped and thanks for updating, it's nice when posters come back and say advice was useful.
Now don't forget the 'false' information you gave
Weird, I can't see a recent activity on mine.0
