Renting with poor credit

Hi the title says it all but just wondering how in depth a credit check with estate agents are (were going with Dowens). I have 4 defaults (latest is 2013) on my credit file, but in a DMP, i am also on maternity leave at the moment.
Me and my partner are looking to rent as he has sold his property and we are trying a new area closer to his work, he has perfect credit and also a good wage (£35,000 PA+) the rental property we are going for is £650PCM and he can easily afford it... How much impact would it be if i have poor credit? Would i still need a guarantor?
Any advice or past experience is most welcome...

Not very helpful but the short answer it that it depends. You'll probably both be credit checked and you'll be seen as a risk; the way they'll see it, if you can't manage your own money they you might spend his too, and end up with both of you in a financial mess. On the other hand, they might be happy enough with his good score and willing to overlook your not-so-good one. If you can provide a guarantor (preferably a UK homeowner) then that will certainly help your case.
Whatever you do, be upfront and honest with the agent/landlord so that you don't waste time and money on a tenancy application that's rejected; if you try to brush it under the carpet then it'll come up anyway and that will look even worse.0 -

When my OH and I rented the tenancy was in his name and I was down as a Permitted Occupier. This does have its own problems as 1) they may not want to do this as they have no one else to go to for rent if tenant defaults 2) a Permitted Occupier has very few rights and can be asked to leave with very little notice.
But this is one way to try.
Others are:
1) Paying 6 months up front
2) Having a guarantor
You need to ask, explain the situation and see what they agree to.0
