to what extend do you bulk buy

Options
In Mr it's today they had a couple of my favourite products on off er - posh herbal tea bags and my favourite toothpaste- sad I know , anyway git me thinking how much do you bulk buy? For instance as the toothpaste is the cheapest I seen I wondered if I should buy say 19 tubes to last maybe a year ? I know it depends on your available funds and what the product shelf life is , but what do you all bulk buy and by how much ?

I bulk buy whenever the maths makes sense. With interest rates way below inflation (whatever lies they tell) it makes far more sense to invest in toilet rolls than deposit accounts.

I buy tea, sugar, flour, washing powder, tins of almost anything.... as long as it will keep.

Of course, that does mean, as Mrs Badger sometimes remarks, that we could feed an army for a month, but providing you have the money and the room, it's a rational way of coping with inflation.
  • Such things as Nescaf! intenso coffee - half price in asda at the moment refuse to buy it full price - currently have 6 sitting in the cupboard - will be getting another couple this week. Also when morrisons/asda/lidl have chicken/pork/beef/mince half price I stock up the freezer - it works out cheaper than steaks (for the joints) for me it's things like that which are no brainers.

I bulk buy anything which is half price or bogof unless it is perishable and can't be frozen and as long as I have space to store it. I just need to be careful with tins as in the past I have bought so many that I didn't use them by the best before date and they didn't taste that great.

The last time my favourite toothpaste was half price I bought around 15 of them which should last over a year. The last time the face wash I use was a quarter of the price with clubcard vouchers as it was already half price, I bought around 10 which should last me a few years.

I always bulk buy, dishwasher tablets, washing liquid/powder, fabric softener, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toilet roll, kitchen roll and shower gels.
Always when they are on offer and always at least six months worth.
They get kept in a wardrobe in the spare bedroom.
  • Anything that is on offer and that is non perishable or has a really long use by date on it (not that I pay much attention to used by dates). Examples include washing powder, loo roll, kitchen towel, shampoo, conditioner, tinned food. U have even bought loo roll that was reduced because the packaging was ripped even though I had bought a load just a fee days before, because it will save money on the long run. We store this all over the hour but mainly in the top cupboard of the wardrobe. Although its a bit more expenditure now it save money in the long run.

    Current MF Date: April 2030- £48,719. 75
  • I would do more bulk buying if I had the funds and OH didn't moan at me. He seems to think its false economy but I know different!

I do tend to use any amazon vouchers that I earn on swagbucks/gifthulk to stock up on toilet roll, kitchen roll, teabags and anything else I can find that seems reasonable value.

My theory is that it should cut down the weekly real money spend eventually but OH just laughs at my pile of bog rolls :D

I buy one or two extra jars of sauce or boxes of cat food when on offer but generally the offers come back in a couple of weeks so just try buy things at around a similar price. I dont have the room to store a huge stock pile and wouldnt particularly want my cash tied up in loo roll! I was always told its about cashflow. I do think you use more if you have more too

I would do more if I had more money and space ( possibly in new house will have space but deffo won't have any more money)

Things that last so tins, tea bags, washing powder, softner, Loo roll, dried food like lentils.

If its a spanking offer I get as much as I can afford. Currently have 80 + Loo rolls and 12 tubes toothpaste, large bag lentils, which was cheaper than the small bag by a few quid oddly. Found it in Morrison's and the half kilo bag was iirc around £2 and the five kilo bag was £3 and some pennies. In the international food aisle.

Some stuff is bought at Costco, hence the Loo roll and toothpaste.

OH does laugh at my efforts but I always say to him its no laughing matter when you need the Loo roll and don't have it or any money for some.

I do sometimes see it as hoarding though and I have watched those extreme couponer programmes and thought that could be me with the storage and time needed.:rotfl:

Ditto to most of what has been said above. Bulk buy anything I know I have storage space for and will not go off - though I dont really pay attention to best before dates on things like rice, pasta ,pulses and other dried goods.

Make sure it is a bargain before you buy though. Nothing worse than stocking up and then finding it cheaper elsewhere a week later !

I have five years worth of toilet rolls, bought at wholesale price from a cash and carry. I haven't bought toilet rolls from a shop in ten years. Also a couple of years worth of wash powder. I have plenty of storage space. I buy lots of cat food when on offer, and stock up on tinned food when I have vouchers to use.
