I said I adjusted the water pressure. That's quite different from adjusting the mains-water tap.

I'm glad that you gave me that piece of valuable advice

Thanks, Steve. Excellent thinking! Have just turned dial down to maximum cold and run the shower and the flow is hard. So no blockage in the inlet-filter then.

Yes, probably best now to just replace. The same shower is £90 plus £6 postage if bought online! Plus the plumber's labour. Have gone to the manufacturer's site, AquaLisa, and found they offer "Fixed price repairs from just £230", if you arrange for one of their engineers to visit! Ridiculous. See:

Anyway, thanks for helping me ensure there's not a simple and cheaper solution than replacing the unit. I don't feel so bad now about forking out. :)
When you run the shower cool (ie maximum water flow, heater still on) does the water come out quite hard? If so, you probably dont have a blockage and may well indicate an electrical fault.

If you can't find an obvious fault with the shower as it is (after checking the electrics as above) I would be inclined to replace the shower. They are notoriously hard to diagnose and repair.
