7% of people have a private number plate
11% have a second home
Why are people so obsessed with private number plates? I have a watch that costs more than my number plate, yet no-one publishes statistics on the number of people who own a watch!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. That's a posh watch! Mine cost £3.... but it doesn't work.
I'm sure my number plate's worth more than that (just the plastic plates cost more than £3).0 -

Well, I do, but haven't worn one for a few years now.
You must be the exception. The number of people who have a personal number plate but not a watch must be very, very small.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. It is a posh watch. It was a gift for a special occasion. I wear it rarely. Half the time I wear it the battery has died since the last time I took it out of the box. If I am honest, even with the battery working it is difficult to tell the time as the face has no markings and is very long and thin. So having got it out and made the decision to wear it, I wear it with a flat battery. So we could almost call it a bracelet. So I have a posh bracelet that was more expensive than my number plate. But it is beautiful.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly. PasturesNew wrote: »The thing is, a NMW wage job, perpetually, living in a bedsit, for a single person is grim. You never leave the house, never do anything, never go anywhere, have no friends .... it's grim over a lifetime. When you're younger that's fine, but the older you get the less friends you have that are happy to sit on the wall outside McDonalds and chat all evening for free......
I needed to put down £2,500 to move into this place, so even moving's not easy when you're renting and on lower wages with uncertain employment outcomes. Stability becomes more important the older you get too... a life on the move's expensive and stressful and demoralising as you have "no roots" and no connection with anybody/anywhere.
Pastures, I think you think I am arguing differently to you, I am not, I agree its grim ( in comparison) and not easy but I also disagree that choice to do otherwise is lucky and in many perspectives posh alert.
The thing is EVERYONE can justify their choices reasonably I think, at most price levels, But choices remain a luxury many in worse countries, and in situations worse than any /most of the nice people here I know of face.0 -

I'm not sure to be honest..... sometimes I get confused what people are saying, then I respond in a way that's confusing and doesn't convey what I really mean as that'd be in too much depth.
So ... let's change the subject.
How're the animals today?0 -
Fine thanks....so far.
Old dog is getting very grumpy and I'm very close to having her PTS. We can try messing with her pain meds again, but its really delaying the inevitable. I certainly don't want to take her in to next winter. But today they are sunbathing and mooching about. They like the new north garden development, I think its more fun for them as there is more stuff going on to see, with view of the road etc.0 -

although the numberplate wasn't that expensive, and I don't wear a watch because of my operation scar, not for any reason.
I have to say I usually know the time without a watch. It drives DH mad, as I ask him what the time is - he asks me what I think it is and I am usually within 10 minutes. Not quite as accurate in the middle of the night, though!0 -
I'm probably the only one on the NP board then...
