I think it's a relative, although I am not sure who (could be mother's uncle; could be g-grandfather's nephew). Some bloke went to court, I think he lied, but I am just interested to know what he was in court for - it looks like bigamy and it was discharged.
I found the search results/snippet on britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk and so can only see a dozen words. Total piece is 164 words.
Newspaper: Nottingham Evening Post
Date: Thursday 11 December 1947
It's a 47 year old plasterer "confronted by his wife" and he says he's not seen her for 20 years. The snippet says he was alleged.... and I'm itching to know what the full 164 words says... what was he alleged to have done (bigamy, but what detail)
So, pure nosiness on my part.
I am slowly extracting bits/pieces of this, but it's slow going. It was at the Guildhall Magistrates court.
On another note I've also discovered a whole bunch of names that look like relatives' names in the local Assizes Court - trouble is, that info's published in a CD and to even look/see if they were relatives/see why they were there, it'd soon add up to £40-60 in buying all the different year CDs. Bummer.... could be some juicy insights there.... including wondering whether/what my grandmother was in court for when she was very young. I think I come from a long line of ferals, the hopeless and lost causes....
NDG...? Any thoughts on how to get the court records? Presumably these things are online these days.0 -

Section 8 on Monday? I dunno.

I managed to repeatedly perform searches on the site and cobbled together the gist of it..... she said she'd not seen him since 1938, he said he'd been writing to her a lot and never had a reply so assumed she was dead. He'd remarried on 22 March 1947 in Nottingham Registry Office. Bench said it was more than 7 years since it could be proved they'd been in touch so had to dismiss the case.
Yes, it's all online ... for a fee. Family history research is for the wealthyI just cobble what I can for free, but can never do the "proof" part of anything. e.g. proving who he actually was etc. I would like to see the full transcript etc ... but that won't happen short of a miracle.... or wealth coming my way.
All I can now say is "This bloke, who I believe was related, based on age/name/full address, was taken to court ....." However, it is part of a bigger family story - e.g. what happened at that address in 1940 and the death of my mother's "cousin" (which is a loose term used to mean "related to, but not sure how"). And although the name/age/address match up, he seems to have acquired an additional middle name over his registered birth name.... so to do any "proof" I'd need several certificates (at £10/time). But, the additional/middle name = my g-grandfather's first name... so it all "fits". Just can't be said as gospel.0 -
Court records should be available for free (i.e. paid for by the taxpayer) IMHO as part of the justice being seen to be done principle.
They really must be held somewhere. Local library to the court perhaps or the Town Hall?
We're moving into the 'weather period of denial' over here right now. It's too cold in the mornings to be comfortable in shorts and thongs (flip-flops) but people still insist on wearing them as if wearing summer clothes will keep the winter away.
We're about 4 weeks away from the Month of Moaning about how the summer has gone before winter comes for July and August. Spring is normally here by the end of August, especially in an El Nino year as this is predicted to be.0 -

Those texts have been happening since 4th April. They asked tochange rent day from 12th to 28th of month in March. Last rent was 12th Feb, so 6 weeks behind. On Tuesday it will be 10.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

What deposit are you holding? Is it 9 weeks?
They presumably pay in advance for rent. In that case they're 6 weeks behind. If they miss another payment they're 6 weeks and 1 day behind and counting.
I'd get them out if there isn't a really good reason such as job loss and waiting for the council to come up with HB. Councils are crap at paying HB IME (vicariously).0 -
No deposit held.
No HB. I know it's stressful when you get a new job so had to find 6 weeks, although we gave them that in arrears, iyswim to make it easier. I think they bought a puppy with the rent, looking at the (open) facebook profile.
H offered to put the extra two weeks into installments by upping the montht rent by £20 even, iwswim. I need to write down what we've had, I think maybe they didn't even pay Feb.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

While I could "just pay £10 for a month's unlimited viewing" of these records... (the papers), you can end up doing that repeatedly. £10 to look at this, £50 for that, £30 for a CD,£40 for another, £20 for a directory, £100 for another membership ..... and, along the way "get that certificate to check, £10" ... and so on .. and before you know it you're £1k down and just accumulating data, not information ... because the more you have, the more avenues open up - each of which has a gatekeeper that requires their palm crossing with silver.0 -
