    Good Luck for tomorrow.

It's nowhere near as bad as you think it is.

Thank you for that. I know I shouldn't be nervous from the threads I've read on here but I am!! I've just copied my forms, money & ID ready. Fee form, latest letter from income support (5 days out of date) plus bank statements to show income support. Everything is done and ready to go. Need to leave at 7.45am ugh.

  • Let us know how it goes. When I get my fee together I'll be going on a Monday morning too. My local court do bankruptcies "every morning" at 9am!

    For owlet:

You arrive at court, do be on time or you'll miss your slot :)

They will deal with literally a hundred or more people a year in even the very smallest courts who are going bankrupt, and vast amounts more in bigger city courts. I went in a March and I was about the 330th person in those two and half months.

Be really happy, you're nothing exceptional or special in BK terms so they will barely notice you through the whole process. This is a very good thing. And these days it is only a year not the three year minimum it was in the 90's.

You'll see the Judge in their Chambers usually and they'll say how sorry they are for you and your predicament. It is a rubber stamp procedure.

They will often then ask you to wait outside for the OR office to ring you there in the court before you leave on one of their phones or you ring the OR, again on their phone. But in someway the OR will talk to you that day as far as I have ever seen.

The OR office calls and either gives you an appointment for a telephone interview (which it is 99.99% of the time) which is usually a fortnight or so away or they'll get back to you.

They'll usually say as well that you're bankrupt and please do not forget that and the conditions it has.

That's it, all over and done apart from the interview (no problem) and if you are working then maybe working out a payment plan for 3 years.

But there's no flogging in street, no tattooing to the forehead circa 17th Century Japan, no nothing - just polite, pleasant people being polite and pleasant.

Honestly, stop thinking about it and get a decent nights sleep - there's genuinely nothing to worry about.
I am not offering advice, at most I describe what I've experienced. My advice is always the same; Talk to a professional face to face.

Debt - None of any type: Bank or any other accounts? - None: Anything in my name? No. Am I being buried in my wife's name... probably

I didn't hear from the OR on the day. I received a letter 3 days after BR with a date for a telephone interview.

I also didn't see the judge which appears to be quite common now, the court admin personnel looked through my paperwork and took the payment. I sat in the waiting room for 10 mins then she brought the paperwork back which was all signed by the judge.

It was very painless and as Mr Dorsetty said, no one is bothered about you filing for BR, they see it all the time, so keep your head high as you move on with your life.

Times do change, mine was 5 years ago and I suppose it is an even more popular past time now.

I think the really important thing as both yourself, many others and myself have said, it really is nothing to worry about at any point.

Things vary from court to court whether you see the Judge or you don't (even though it was supposed to be 'standardised' a year ago) - I agree with the general thoughts on here that it is an anti climax, no big deal, and is indeed something to look forward to, when all that creditor pressure will be gone.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your thoughts. My local court is 9am only so I'll get there a bit early. I can't wait for it all to be over and done with now. I'm going to try and sleep and I'll report back in a new thread tomorrow. Thank you :-). x
