Best way to pay HMRC?

Hi Folks,
We apparently have a tax credit overpayment and now have to repay HMRC.
What is the best eay to pay them? We can't afford to pay the full whack (approx 2000) but am going to suggest 100 a month, either through DD or tax code.
Which would be better?
Thanks!

I think they always allow you to pay back over a year, if you want longer give them a ring and plead poverty and they'll probably give you longer.
