Hi all, it's a bit of an odd situation as she's not like the lady who had a housekeeping cheque from the husband, she has always worked and can completely manage a household. I think it comes down to control, lack of trust (no reason not to trust IYKWIM) and lack of respect.

I cannot understand why on earth the son would agree to do this, when there is someone perfectly capable of doing it, not sure which word "securityguy" you meant by !!!! but I completely agree :-)

All I can do is offer my advice and support the wife and be there when it all goes horribly wrong.

Ps have told her she absolutely needs to get independent legal advice, which she has promised to do, so fingers crossed!!

DH and I have done PoA for each other, did it a few years ago now. It was suggested that we should involve family members, but as they all live at a similar distance to the son in this case, we didn't think it would be of much use.

The word may have been something like 'a*se' or t w a t'. Any of those words will not get through. You can't even write about those small blue and yellow birds, the kind that hang on peanut-feeders. And similar.

Although I think this case is horrendous, appointing someone younger is not a bad idea per se, especially if the couple are similar in age. I'm in the process of organising the same for myself and OH: we'll be attorneys for each other and so will our daughters. The intention is that it will be academic for years to come, but will simplify things considerably should the need arise.

The son may not realise the full situation. He may feel that it makes sense to have someone younger appointed without knowing how things work at present. Equally, he may be a chip off the old block .

Thank goodness she is going to seek legal advice. It doesn't half make you wonder how some people live their lives!
    . . .I did not speak out

    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me..
