    I've found that Samsungs don't like Blackberry cables.

    I see after re-reading the article more thoroughly (ie not just the first couple of sentences and skimming the rest at high speed) that the aim is that there will be a single charger specification that works with all smartphones. Now that does make sense to me. I'd hope that it will be suitably powerful to charge tablets too in a reasonable time.

    Maybe the EU have got this one right. I certainly think they may have. In future instead of a plastic box full of dozens of different types of charger we will have one full of dozens of the same type. Hopefully not all having a busted lead or connector.

    Charger, or charger and cable?

    I can see the definition of a standard USB charger would be a good thing.

    I think the idea is to supply phones without chargers.

    Probably there will be the option to take phone + charger or just phone. My post was intended to be tongue in cheek.
