Price comparison websites now want 5 years of claims made, used to be 4.

My old car was written off (other driver's fault) 4 years ago. Last year, I remember the price comparison websites asked for any claims I made in the past 4 years. Now it has increased to 5 years. Does anyone know why?
Some companies only ask for 3 or 4 years if I go through their own website, chances are I will get a cheaper quote. As obviously I will not need to admit claims, if they want 3 or 4 years of claims.
Do you think I would spend my time going through the individual websites for quotes? Only will get quotes from the 8-10 cheapest results, even with me having to admit to the write off.
My insurance is due on 8th April.

Comparison sites ask for info to cater for as many companies as possible. Those insurers that need only 3 years will ignore anything older.0

You will find that your memory is what has changed rather than aggregator websites.
Aggregators naturally ask the broadest possible set of questions so that they can cater for the broadest range of mainstream insurers. Most insurers ask for 3 or 5 years incidents and so the aggregators ask for 5 years with the theory that the others can ignore the later two years.
Of cause as the statisticians get this extra data then they can start seeing if their decision to ignore them is right or not and may or may not rate on them0
