Good Wine

Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but looking for some wine info. Anyone got any suggestions for a pleasant, dry white wine? I always end up buying the usual brands with the nice looking labels! Just a cheapie, £6/7 max.

Cheers

Just enjoying a glass of Tesco Finest Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. Just found the link on the Tesco website and it's on offer so now I'll have to go and find some Tesco Wine codes so I can get my order in.

I enjoy the Sainsbury's South African Chenin Blanc, only £3.29 a bottle, much nicer than a chardonnay.

    A few of my favourites:

    Peter Lehmann Semillon (Aus)

    Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc (NZ)

    Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc (SA)

    All about £6-7...

I am not v good at choosing wines and go for same old labels - want to take advantage of current Tesco offer - would people like to post some favourite reds?

I absolutely love Margaret Island from Sainsbury's and it is only £2.99 a bottle - it's a dry white wine. I bought it once just because I was skint and was really surprised by it - now I make a regular trip to stock up. Even my OH loves it, and cheap wine usually makes him shudder:rotfl:

If there are any Aldi or Lidl stores near you, they have some very good white and red wines. If you pay £6-7 there it will be a VERY good wine. They are not popular recognisable labels but, it's what's on the inside that counts.
Just finishing a more than acceptable Montepulciano d'Abruzzo from Lidl which was on offer at £2.69.

    Try these

Four Emus Wines, a fun new brand has landed from South Australia.

Named after the crazy, flightless birds native to Australia, the range includes four new wines that embody unique and vivid flavours and colourful packaging. The four colourful wines include a Shiraz named Eddie, a Rose named Ella, an unwooded Chardonnay named Elsie and a Cabernet Sauvignon called Ernie, all with a user friendly screwed top for easier convenience when having fun with friends!

Eddie (Shiraz, red label) is the leader of the flock. Deranged and thoughtful (for the two seconds any emu can hold onto one thought). Eddie is the kind of emu you would hang out with…if you were an emu.

Elsie (unoaked Chardonnay, yellow label) is aloof and distant? Or is she just easily distracted? You never quite know with Elsie. But boy that emu can run fast.

Ella (Rose, pink label) had joined the flock last of all. She reckoned she brought a level of sophistication to the flock. But try as she might, she just couldn't run straight.

Ernie (Cabernet Sauvignon, blue label). What can we say about Ernie? A blank slate. An emptry plate. A hole within a hole. Of course anything would be hindered by a walnut sized brain. But Ernie, well…um… what was I saying?

These retail at £6.05 at Somerfield BUT for the next 2 weeks they are doing a BUY 4 for £10 offer

    BUT IT GETS BETTER .....

Somerfield do 5% off 6 bottles or more so BUY in multiples of 4 but always get at least 8

    BUT IT GETS BETTER .....

The 5% is calculated on the FULL PRICE of the wine ...

    ... so you don't get 8 bottles for £20 (4 for £10 twice)

    ... you don't get 8 bottles for £19 (£20 - 5% of £20)

    YOU DO GET 8 bottles for £20 LESS 5% of 8 x £6.05 (£48.40)

    Which is £2.42

    £20 - £2.42 = £17.58 for £48.40 worth of wine
    That's just under £2.20 a bottle ! HIC !

So what you're saying is that although the wine is 4 for £10.00, the price through the till goes down as the individual price of the wine. Does anyone know if this happens at other Somerfield stores, surely they will be aware of this glitch? I have a local Somerfield and wouldn't mind giving this a go if it works.
