Car buying advice import:false?

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out. Thinking of purchasing a car, looking at specs wherein it states:
  • Import: false
  • Insurance Group: 16A...
Wondering what the import false reference means? Also, the online car showroom appears really impressive - the 'real life' base however, is in a very scary area of Glasgow, just at the back of Barlinnie Prison. The shutters are down and you have to phone for an appointment. A highly inebriated man having an argument with himself started talking and following me into the area, but thankfully seemed harmless enough... The whole place looks a bit dodgy and is next door to a run down mechanic shop and the owner gave me a very bad feeling - when he looked at me I just wanted to start running! Anyway, I can go back there this afternoon to actually see the car. My second question is: Should the place where the cars are being sold be a cause of concern, or I worrying over nothing? I can't find any reviews of the place online at all (lots of advertising though) and they appear to have been there for a long time. The car looks lovely and appears to only have had one previous owner. I just have no earthy idea about cars etc, so any advice would be welcome.

If you are worried about this Traders attitude/appearance when just viewing the car, how are you going to feel when you have a beakdown a week after buying it and have to go back and argue for a 'Freebie' repair ?

False in this context just means it is not considered an import. Any clues as to what fine emporium this is?

It maybe an issue if you need to contact him to take it back for any repairs or the car turns out to be not quite as advertised.

Having to arrange a viewing time for a trader would put me off. But not so much if they were a part time trader.

A database with a tick-box will often have the values true/false when printed out in text form. I'm sure that's all it is - import = no.

Having said that, buying a car should be a pleasant experience. If the vendor frightens you when you are a potential customer, he's not worth dealing with. As others have said, you won't want to be going back to him if problems arise.

Pay a little more and go somewhere you feel welcome.

Just noticed these other responses so thank you - ended up with THE best car in the world! A lovely silver mercedes SL - I don't know anything about cars as I stated earlier - but it's the prettiest car I've ever owned and very happy with it (although saying that, it's back at the garage being fixed - but at least it is being fixed with people who I'm not scared of - so that advice was sound dogshome! :) ) It was riddrie trades in 85 Smithycroft Road - try a google search street view and go up that little alley - it may become clear why I was so terrified! :)
