RAC Breakdown Cover renewal

Just tried to cancel my RAC breakdown cover renewal but was told cooling off period of 14 days is over so no refund at all. Date of renewal was 28/2/14 and they count that day as day 1 of cooling off period - so 14/3/14 is 1 day too late so they refused to let me have a refund today. I understood today to be the 14th day. I can get exactly the same cover from Green Flag for less than half the price. RAC say rules are rules and they cannot make any exceptions. I have been with RAC since 2001 and have Motor Insurance also with them. Can anyone suggest what I can do to change RAC's mind? Their price £194 - Green Flag £94?

So the old policy ended at 11:59pm 27th Feb, the new one started at midnight on the 28th Feb. So 14 days goes to the 13th and today is your 15th day of cover.
Ultimately you can put in a complaint that you think their cancellation terms are unfair and you intend to take the matter to the FOS if you do not get a satisfactory response. Focus on the no refund aspect though rather than the how the cooling off period is calculated as they are correct on that0 -
What took you so long?0

It would appear that RAC state that you can't cancel your "membership" after the cooling off period and it appears that you are outside this.

It seems that you are stuck with them this year but hopefully next year you can shop around a bit earlier to avoid this situation.0
