Barclays Partner Finance - Unauthorised credit search.

Hello again everyone.

I recently took an interest in having a car on Hire/Purchase.
The company that the motor dealer applied for finance to was a company called 'MoneyWay'. This is the one and only company that I have given permission.

However, I now find that Barclays Partner Finance have also searched my file. I sent them a letter on Tuesday explaining that I had not given them permission to look at my file, and I requested that they remove the search.

Their response today was "With relation to your request, unfortunately we are unable to remove the credit search and you will need to refer back to the retailer in order to action this request".

To me, this sounds like a fob-off as they didn't explain why they couldn't remove it.

Could somebody perhaps advise me with my next step. If it's to send a letter, then what points could I possibly raise?

Thank you!

The motor dealer/MoneyWay will have confirmed to Barclays Partner Finance that you had given permission for the search (most likely the dealer), hence why they will have referred you back to them...

I would have a word with the dealer firstly to check where exactly they sent the application. MoneyWay is a sub-prime lender, so chances are that the dealer first sent the application to Barclays Partner Finance who declined the application before they submitted it to MoneyWay.

This happened to me when I bought my last car on credit. I ended up with about ten full credit searches. I eventually got all bar the one I actually used for the car removed.

I think that you need to go back to the initial dealer and tell them you are not happy. You may find other searches appear too - before you get too carried away I would be sure that what was done was a full credit search and not just an enquiry.

You can get this put right but you may have to persevere.

Look what you signed at the dealers
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Thanks for your replies. I shall contact the car dealer on Monday and let you all know the outcome for future reference.

    Thanks again.
