It was also known to bris that the section of the sale of goods act that for the first 6 months following the purchase of goods, the onus was is the seller to prove that any fault was not due to a manufacturing defect did not apply to second hand goods:

and it was also known to him that buyers of second hand goods do not have the right to reject those goods if they do not match the description and this isn't noticed before payment is made:

both of which "facts" turned out to be incorrect.

Just because something is believed to be correct doesn't mean that it is always correct.

The OP is outside of the 45 day limit for opening a paypal dispute so this option isn't available to them.
