Hi Guys, How long does your NCB last from renewal?
it used to be 2 years, but that was ages ago.
My wife gave her car to Daughter, may 2013, and had max NCB at the time.I have my car with wife as named driver, BUT, want to put her as main driver?
It's 10 months since her insurance ran out, and mine isn't due till August.
Do I ring mine and ask to change main driver now? or wait till my renewal. Will they honour her NCB?
I don't want to make enquiries without knowing, as it is recorded.
any advice would be grateful.

    Thanks I I.
In that case, I may as well just ask for wife to be main driver when my insurance is up for renewal August,( Hastings now ) or I will incur charge for paperwork, name change;it will then be 15 months since she had her own insurance then..?

If she doesn't get her own car within 9 months of August, her NCD will be too old at the next renewal (Aug 2015)

So maybe consider her buying the policy in August 2013, then alternate each year thereby keeping both your NCD alive until whenever you want to have 2 cars again.

Hi Quentin, I will still stick with just one car, but my wife as the main driver, and me as named, instead of the other way round, which it is at present.
I tend not to drive much myself now, so she uses it mostly, so to be legal, want her as main driver, and me named?
I could do it now, BUT, it will cost me to change existing documents, so thought that I would do it this August, when renewing it, hoping they would still honour her own full NCD from her own car which will be 15 months old, May 2013>August 2014 ??
I thought they stopped you alternating it yearly? to keep both up to date.?

With most insurers it is the policyholder that earns/maintains NCD. There is only one I can think of that attaches the NCD to the main driver.

Just changing her to the main driver shouldn't involve her NCD.

Hi rs, it will probably mean her becoming the policy holder, as she uses it most.
I had a argument with one company when I said she probably drove it more than me, last time I renewed it, he said I was Fronting, which is why I want her as the main driver. It probably is fronting legally?but not intentionally, I was going to get her another car at the time.?
However, we don't require 2 cars now.

"They" haven't stopped you alternating policyholder each year.

If you are staying as a single car family, either alternate or decide which one of you is going to "lose" your NCD.

You can only use your NCD if you buy the policy, and if you buy the next one, your wife's will be over 2 years old when you next renew in 2015!
