Nationwide Charges Default

Hi Guys and Girls,

I wonder if any of you can help with this.

Back in 2008 I changed bank accounts without realising that I had a £5 charity direct debit still on the account.

This resulted in charges etc amounting to £422 and to make matters worse I moved house so did not realise this had happened.

A default was subsequently registered which I did not notice until 2010. When I saw this I repaid it within a couple of months through the Debt Collection Agency that was looking after the file. My report now says satisfied.

I was wondering if there was any likelihood of getting this removed as it is the only blot on my file and I am in a position where I would like to apply for a mortgage.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What's the default date? Sounds like it'll drop off soon anyway.
    What will your verse be?

Wouldn't be worth challenging it as it would drop off this year. You may have to postpone the mortgage by a few months but look at it as a few months to save a few more pounds to possibly save towards you mortgage.

Unfortunately the default was not registered until 2010 (which seems a long time after the event in itself) so it still has two years to run.

The default should be dated about 3 months after you went into an unarranged overdraft.

Complain in writing and quote the relevant part of the ICO guidance on filing defaults. I think section 13/14 refers to current accounts.

Thank you - I did think these seemed odd.

Just to update on this - I contacted Nationwide by letter and they have removed the default as a gesture of goodwill (guilty conscience at the level of charges maybe) so all good.
