PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Was the house valued for probate?
the value for pre 1982 assets was "rebased" to its value on 31 March 1982. You must use its value on that date in your CGT calculation as the "base cost" of the property. This means that the gain between 1979 - 1982 is now tax free as you will pay CGT only on the gain post 1982
