skinny base units for kitchen

Hi I have a gap either side of a range cooker. I was wondering if anyone knew if wine racks/ cupboards etc come in 120mm or 175 to 180mm width. I can only find 150mm or 200mm. Mid oak is the colour. The fitter will rig up some blanks otherwise but I thought it was worth a try asking here. Thanks

If your fitter can make scribe panels could he cut down a standard shelf unit carcass and then you could fill it with terracotta pipe sections to store wine?
  • That sounds good, thanks. I like the terracotta pipes.

You could have bought some base units that were 100mm bigger as they come in 300mm, 400mm, 500mm, 600mm. I'm surprised that a kitchen designer would leave such a gap, they usually manage to fill almost all of the available space

  • You'd be right DG except that my kitchen is u shaped with the range cooker at the bottom end of the u. Two designers suggested putting the cooker slightly off centre to accommodate a unit next to it but I didn't fancy that. Also, I didn't want doors and handles bashing into each other too much.Have decided to go for filler panels from the Ikea clad on oak veneer panels we got to cover the B&Q plasticy ones.

we do custom made units in almost any size but your fitter will prob be the most cost effective rather than a specialist company like us to make bespoke

I just cut a 150mm wine rack down to 125mm to fit a gap. We intend to use it to house a table cloth and mats though standard straight 70cl wine bottles would still fit. I retained the cam and dowel fittings on one side and redrilled dowel holes the other side, using screws and glue to fix.
