Lloyds bank questions on ppi claim

I have put in a claim with lloyds, for 3 loans. After going into a branch of lloyds and asking them for my old banking records.

Today a representative has called and because the loans all date back to the late 90's and mid 00's. He has been asking me what were the companies that I was working for at the time policies on death in service, redundancy packages, sick pay policies etc. He advised me to try and call my ex employers to check, as it "may be beneficial" to my claim.
Has anyone else experienced this? I have called one of the companies, who were very helpful.
I'm not quite sure what to make of it to be honest. Maybe it's due to the age of the loans. They were paid off in 1994, 1997 and 2003 (?) why does lloyds need this information? They even asked me for the loan amounts? Surely they would have that information?

Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this? Feeling a little out of my depth with this!

    They may or may not have the info. It may just be a test of your memory. They need it because they are investigating and assessing your complaint and as part of it considering your need for PPI.

    why does lloyds need this information?

    When you complain, you make an allegation of wrongdoing. They are checking to see if your allegations can be proven or not. If your specific allegations in your complaint letter cannot be proven, then they are required to then look at the suitability of the product for your needs. Even if you did not specifically complain about the suitability.
