Potential Address Fraud

Hi, I'm not sure if this is in the right place or not so I apologise in advance.

A few weeks ago I got a few letters which looked like they were DVLA letters addressed to a man and woman (separately, but same surname), I sent these back marked 'Nobody at this address with this name' and have had nothing for a week until yesterday and today I got letters from 3 mobile network with the same name. I hadn't read the name until I opened it but as it was regarding a new mobile internet account I rechecked the name and obviously it wasn't me.

My worry is that this is the start of an address fraud type scam, as I have lived at this address for 7 years and the lady I brought it off told me she had lived there for 30 odd years, and I can understand somebody making the mistake on one form, but now its a second sender and its for pay monthly internet. ]

So my question is, what or who do I report it to? Ive emailed 3 who get back to you within 5 days, but do I contact the police? or is there a dedicated fraud line? Im panicking a little because Im hoping to go for a new mortgage in the next 6 months and the last thing I need is something hitting my credit score!

Thanks for any help in advance.

If the accounts aren't in your name they won't affect your credit files.

Credit files are tied to people, not addresses. 100 different people could all give your address in their applications and it wouldn't affect you in the slightest.

You could report it to action fraud.

  • No such thing as address fraud.

If you get post that isn't for you at your home, write RTS in big letters on the front crossing out your address and chuck back in the post box.

By the by, how long ago did you move in? When I moved house I set up a postal redirect for a year just in case I missed anything. After that year I know post had been sent for me there and returned to sender, I hadn't changed address everywhere unknowingly so presumably it would have panicked said family who were not aware of the redirect being in lace or ending, and to be fair not their business except returning the post top sender. It is not an indication of fraud, could well be a moved address or someone for whatever reason not informing the lender of their address change.
