Just had an idea and thought this might be the best place to ask, i have had many loans and credit cards over my lifetime and was wondering about this ppi thing and if anybody can reccomend any descent company that can check if you have been missold it.
the reason iam asking is that you read so many horror stories in the papers about these companies just out to make money for themselves.
i would be grateful if anybody could help thanks.

deperado88, you'd be better off doing it yourself as the companies who offer their services do very little for potentially quite a lot of money (assuming you have been missold PPI).
The easiest way is just to ring each company concerned and ask - as long as the loan/CC isn't too far in the past they should have information available but if it's more than 6 or 7 yrs then you might have to have a dig around and see if you have any old statements or agreements showing PPI payments.
No harm in asking and a lot of the time they can get the ball rolling on any potential complaint there and then.
If you don't want to call them but have account numbers etc in your own records then the Financial Ombudsman Service website has a form you can fill in and send it to each of your creditors.
Of course, you have to have a good reason as to why you think you have been miss-sold PPI. There are links at the top of this page what can help you decide if you think you qualify.0 -

Claims companies dont check if you have been mis-sold. They put in a complaint using the same complaints process if you do it yourself. Most use the same complaints form (or their branded version of it) or worse, they use a bog standard template letter similar to those on the internet.
They ask you the questions on the form and then pop the form in the post and sit back and wait.
It is cheaper and better for you to fill the form in yourself.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

No company will "check" whether you have been mis-sold PPI, they will simply ask you to fill in the same complaint form(or a similar version of it) that you could fill in and send to the Bank yourself.
If you had PPI, and you feel it was mis-sold to you, then go to the link provided at post #5 of this thread and follow the simple (and free) complaints process. All it will cost you is the price of a few stamps.0
