How to change one AMEX card for a different one?

in Credit cards
I have an AMEX Platinum cashback card which has an annual fee of £25. I would be better off with the Platinum Everyday card since I spend a lot less than 10K on it annually (this wasn't available when I took out my card).
How would I go about changing?

I would guess as both cards are standard AMEX branded and both credit rather than charge cards, you can probably just call them and ask them to swap you over.0

yes, just speak to them and see what they have to say.0

Thanks for your responses. I gave up trying to speak to anyone. Their 0845 number never led to a real person. However I decided to simply apply for the card I want and was approved, so I'll wait till it comes, cancel the old one and Bob's your uncle.. (fingers crossed)0

Most the time with credit cards you have to do the apply for a new one then cancel the old one.
If you still have an old contract mobile/ landline that doesnt include 0845 numbers for free like the modern ones do then use https://www.saynoto0870.co.uk to find alternative numbers0 -
...or if you have a smart phone then download the app 'WeQ4U'
You type in the number and it converts it to a 'free' number.0 -
What makes you think that you need to spend £10,000 for the fee paying card to be worth it?
I applied for the everyday platinum and was approved but want to change it to the fee paying card.
The fee paying card is 0.75% better up to £3500 and that works out at £26.25 so you are in profit by £3500 not £10,000 as you suggested.
0800 587 3724 is the new account opening team.0 -
They have a Brighton number (+44 (0)1273 667 272) available which is cheaper to call. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Yes, I did this myself, but I switched my card from a Platinum everyday to the Platinum Standard cashback to get the higher cashback rate. I phoned the customer service number on my card: 01273 696 933, and the whole thing was done in less than 15 minutes.
By the way they said I could either apply for the new card or they could switch my current card. I chose the switch option for time and conveinince and to have the cashback balance moved across. However with the offers you can get starting a new second card that would probably be better value (5% cashback, £25 incentive etc).0 -
i always call them on an 0800 number, the Brighton number is on the back of the card.
i'm surprised that it was difficult to reach a person: i always just get the recorded Scottish bloke requesting my card number & then i'm through to a person every time.0
