Thought I would run this by you knowledgable lot.
FIL is having car troubles. Its a 2002 plate Mazda Demio petrol.
I thought originally it was the MAF but that looks all clean.
Was able to get hold of a scanner today and it revealed the following fault code:
p0443
Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit.

Can I assume this has nothing to do with the MAF and is indeed a different part altogether?

Thanks as usual

Yes, its a completely different part from the MAF, its part of the emissions control system. You could get lucky and find it is a wiring or connector fault or even just an air leak instead of having to replace the valve itself.

    Thank you.
Would you know if the valve does need changing is it difficult to do?

Couldn't tell you for sure on that car, never done one, but they aren't heavyweight units, your likely to struggle more just getting the pipework and connections off rather than unbolting and replacing the unit itself.
Forgot to add, check the wiring and connections and pipework before just replacing the unit.
  • 0443 Is usually thrown when the valve is not operating as it should, meaning that theres a number things you have to check, The most common being that theres too much pressurized gasses going through the valve, I.E the valve is stuck open, when stuck open the car runs lean and lumpy.

also to check is the connections to the valve and PCM wiring harness for chaffing or splits or burns.
the next would be the purge connection between valve and inlet manifold or throttle body, making sure its not split or the O ring in the connector ontop of the purge valve hasn't split or worn.
