Vaux Vectra/Cam belt
hello,i just got a 08 vectra 1.8 sri petrol, was just wondering when to change the timing belt? anyone know? thanks.
Deal did say it was the VVT (variable valve timing) model, which I think makes the engine the Z18XER, rather than the Z18XE (no VVT)
Wonder how you tell the difference ??

I have a vectra 1.9 2005 and for my vehicle it is every 100k or 10 years. Phone masterfit, gave them your reg and the details are on their system.0

The recommended intervals for a timing belt change, tensioner change and idler pulley(s) change is 150,000 miles or 120 months whichever comes first. A cambelt kit should be purchased and will include all parts required.0

Before it breaks.
If in doubt replace it and then you know its not going to break, Or if it does the garage that fitted it are probably liable.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I would never leave mine for that long.
On my 03 Astra the recommendation is now, 40,000 miles or four years.
My local garage charge me £200. That is for genuine parts and the water pump.

The timing belt broke on my niece`s Clio. It was a low mileage car, full main dealer service history, recently serviced by Renault. It was way below the recommended replacement mileage.
But it still broke.
It cost over £ 1500 to get it fixed, and that was some ten years ago.
So no, I would never like to take the chance.0 -
http://www.mytimingbelt.com/Results.aspx?ModelId=494 says 48 to 120 mths !!
not a lot of use.
My vauxhall dealer says 100k or 10 yrs
Does it make any difference that is is (dealer said it was - how to tell ???) the VVT variable valve timing model
or are they ALL VVT for that year0 -
I would just go for the lowest time it's not the hardest one to do and shouldn't cost than much. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

On a car from a manufacturer renowned for building cars with poor quality tensioners, that figure is playing with fire IMO.
Some of these cars were throwing belts after 20,000 miles, so I would definitely say get the work done sooner rather than later.0
