She may want legal advice on any agreement you propose. She would not be able to get this advice from your solicitor.
  • Okay, although I would be paying my legal costs, the £150 an hour to send her a letter from my pocket, not fom the capital in the house. Surely she should therefore do the same?

    500 salary a month?

    blimey
  • Yeah,
£500 a month, well just under, although I do occasionally get some overtime and a bit of money for fuel. I think this will be going up to about £750 in April as I have an additional day with my current employer.
That's the main reason for selling the house. I want to get somewhere with a smaller mortgage and cheaper bills. I'm quite handy and prepared to live in a static caravan for a while to renovate or build a property. I've seen some places in South Wales for £50-70K which might meet my needs.
I'm applying for a few jobs at the moment in Fire Safety, but will have more chance when I complete my NEBOSH course in June. Once I have full time work I'll then be fairly comfortable with a low mortgage and a decent salary again.
  • So I put the house on the market on Friday and had a buyer by Saturday afternoon:j

Phoned the ex to say it was going on the market and now she's decided the original discussion about how much she wanted isn't fair and she wants what she's legally entitled to.

Looks like I'll be on a loser with this one.:(

So despite me paying £19000 over the past two years on my own to cover the mortgage, with no contribution from her, she'll now be getting half of the increase over that time too. Unless my solicitor can agree otherwise.

Her dad's also screwing me for the payment we agreed for my half of the I set up with him as a partner. I guess as far as money is concerned their behavior runs in the family.
  • Just to update.

After much messing about we went to mediation.

Fortunately, as the house sale fell through once I increased the sale price to the original buyer by £5k.

During mediation we agreed that I would get 50% of the proceeds Plus £2k as a contribution towards the cost I'd had to endure. It's not great, but after the sale went through I ended p with £31k + and she got £29K, so she was very happy but I didn't come out too badly and can now move on.

Thanks for all the advice people gave me here. I'll be learning from this mistake and will ensue agreements are drown up before buying next time.
