Okay.... long story

So we put an offer in on a maisonette back on the 16th of November - all was well, things were going through it all looked good. Then our solicitor went sick so they hired a locum in replacement and to put it mildly he is the most despicable person i have ever had to deal with. We exchange 6 weeks ago still with no idea when we will complete (are waiting for the bank to file a DS1 on the property as the deeds were still in the previous managements companies name FROM TEN YEARS AGO)

The story only gets worse as I have managed to pick the solicitor who back in 2004 should have straightened out the title deeds.... so this is his fault from ten years ago?!?! you can't make this stuff up

anyway i was chasing him quite often (2-3 times a week) as it was just ridiculous that we could exchange transfer a lump sum of money into his account and then we have absolutely NO idea of when we might complete. 3 weeks ago he gave me an absolute earful (i was in tears...and that takes a lot) shouting at me down the phone about how i shouldn't contact him and he'll contact me when he has news. Both me and my partner are really nervous about contacting him after this subsequently i haven't spoken to him for 3 weeks and we just have no clue what is going on

what can i do? or should i just leave it? please help, I'm getting to the stage where i don't even want to move out anymore

He works for you - not the other way round. Don't take his crap and let him know in strong terms how you expect this relationship to work. Would you pay a lot of money to be treated this way in any other circumstances? Of course not!

Put in a formal complaint to the firm and let them know that you are prepared to escalate your case to the Law Society if necessary.

How big is the firm? If the solicitor you are dealing with is not the sole persona there make a formal complaint to either the senior partner , or the complaints partner (the information about who that is should be in your original client care letter, or on the firm's website) If this person is a locum then the firm may not be aware of how he is behaving (that doesn not in any way excuse it, but it does mean that bringing the situation to the attention of someone more senior, and who has a stake in the form's reputation, may be much more effective than if this was a partner or permanent employee)

Normally, when you exchange contracts, the contract includes the date agreed for completion - what does yours say? Are you sure ou have definitely exchanged?
All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)

Both of you need to man up and go and go down to his office and demand he sorts it out. He is making a mockery of you, putting your entire future in jeopardy and you havent contacted him like meek little mice in case he says something mean to you.

What on earth are you thinking? Grow a pair.

Now I hope reading this has made you feel angry. Now go and take that anger and transfer it on to him, and the law society, first thing tomorrow morning.

Re-read your first post, and then get annoyed. You are paying this pl0nker, and he works for you. I suggest you make a complaint and demand a completion date. And a change in solicitor, if possible, but make sure that you document everything that has gone on so far.

    You are not powerless.
