Ltd Business Dissolved 2013 being hounded for business debt

Options
hi all,

I could do with some help and advice please, in 2012 I registered two Ltd companies with companies house through a local accountant, both these businesses were joined due to the fact the one was an abreviation of the other, anyways business went a little pear shaped and we started dissolvement proceedings in April 2013 but before this I stepped down as Director and the remaining 2 share holders carried on and parted seperate ways, all dissolvement paperwork was sent to everyone involved (utilities etc..) but unfortunately my accountant at the time refused to accept this, he presented me with a £1500 bill and told me he wouldn't charge for work not done so dropped the amount to £334. I opened a shop close to the accountants in july 2013 and he continued to hound me weekly for money and not politely I may add, most of the time in front of customers so I told him I would pay £20 every other week. Unfortunately this shop closed down in January 2014 and now he's sending me nasty letters, but asking for £405 now and I had managed to pay £180 off the original amount, so I questioned the amount and he has sent me an email basically saying he was doing me a favour by not charging me the original amount and that when he had worked it out the bill was over £500.

Sorry for waffling anyways firstly i'm wanting to know do I have to pay this as I personnally stepped down as director and secondly can he keep hounding me even though the debt was for the Ltd companies which have now dissolved.

Not sure what to do!!!

Depends on what work has been billed. If the accountant registered two limited companies on your instructions and provided you with advice regarding your business arrangements, then the accountant could legitimately bill you for the cost of this work, irrespective of the fate of the companies in question.

You could always ask a solicitor, or take it to a judge to see what they think.
