Housing/Notice advice and help please

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice please

My mum passed away yesterday. We (me and my two children) have lived in her council house with her for the last 20 years
The house had been in my dads now and has now transferred to my mum - the council say this cannot now pass to me so in effect 4 weeks after her funeral we will be homeless

At first I moved home because of a failed relationship but towards the end of her life I cared for her quite a lot and did all the shopping, cooking cleaning etc (and worked full time) but mum never went out

I also suffer from Crohns disease which is exasperated due to stress and as you can imagine I am finding the whole thing hugely stressful - would it help if i made the council aware of this

We can't afford to buy and our only option i guess is private renting but I am just looking for helpful advise really - particularly given the timescale of four weeks to get out

Thank you anyone who thinks that they can give me some helpful advice.

Ask the council if they can re house you elsewhere. They are making you homeless.

A letter from your doctor may help

I am so sorry about your mum, its more than enough to cope with without the rest of it hanging over your head.

    Good luck with everything.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • Talk to your doctor and local councillor. If you have lived there for 20 years it is at their discretion. Our local authority have allowed adult children and sister/brother to remain in the home even when it had been passed from husband to wife.

Don't just accept this, fight for your home.
