Old Style Daily Thread Thursday 13th March

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Good morning chums,
very foggy here this morning but hopefully it will be as yesterday and 'burn' off by lunchtime. Nice afternoon at U3A yesterday we had a talk from a chap who had been a Captain of a Hovercraft for 25 years, and very entertaining he was as well.

Today I have a slightly easier day, and after the dog walking and school run I am actually going to be at home this morning for a change :):)
I have a YS bag of organic carrots that I am going to turn into carrot and coriander soup and I also want to watch a little catch-up t.v. and do some knitting.so a pottering morning for me I think.

I ordered my new car yesterday and decided on a red one for a change, as my youngest DGS said could he pick the colour and I said OK so he said, a nice bright one for a change :):):). So hopefully by the end of May I should get it. Apparently this one has lots of gizmo's and gadgets thrown in as well:):)
As long as it works ok I will be happy with it. I have stuck to Vauxhalls as I do like them, and they're pretty reliable. My last two have been Zafira's and I went for another one as I get a seven seater because of the family, and they are very comfortable as well.

Had some sad news from my eldest DD last night, her Pa-in-law Frank, has just had a prostrate cancer diagnose, bless him. He is almost 83 and has decided not to have an operation as he has a bad heart, and would rather enjoy what time he has left with his wife of 59 years.Such an awful shame as he is a delightful old guy, and so bright and cheery. His wife is an absolute lovely lady as well, and a dear friend as well to me.We will all pull together to help them this year in their troubles. The Doctor has said he will do his best to keep him as pain free as possible.
If the world put more effort into trying to find a cure for this dreadful discease, rather than killing each other life would be such a better place I think
Well I shall have to get a move on as the kettle is calling me
Have a good day whatever you are doing

  • Good morning everyone :)

One more night in the hotel and then I get to go home and see DH.

No OS news except I have not spent a penny of my own money all week, which has to be good.

JackieO - lovely news about the car but so sad about DD's PIL

DG - so sorry to hear about your neighbour friend

Better get a move on and get ready for breakfast.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

Had a bad night's sleep, I was hot then cold and have a rotten headache this morning. Hope it clears soon - Must have been the sunshine yesterday!
DG - Sad news from your neighbour.
JackieO - A new car! That's exciting, I saw my first '14' plate yesterday. Hope DDs FIL stays comfortable.

Had to go and get different paint for the dressing table yesterday, the other was a lovely colour but just wasn't covering properly and seemed to chip if you looked at it. I did everything right, priming and undercoating but I think that make of paint is poor, wont use it again. Anyway, it has had what I think is its final coat this morning. The knobs arrived yesterday so I can assemble it all tonight.

Had sea bream for tea yesterday which was ok, got a bit put off by the bones but was tasty enough. At least when I look in the freezer they wont be staring at me any more!!

Off to work then hospice today - must do some shopping too, the fridge is empty!

Hope everyone is well, take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now light, very misty and looks cold and dreary. Hope the mist will burn off and we get another decent day.

DH up and gone to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was stew and dumplings, I’d managed to stretch past stews so there was a spare portion each time, and froze the LO’s, overnight Tuesday night I defrosted those and then just put it all in a pot and heated it through, also made a potato bake to go with it – it was my sister’s birthday yesterday so I wanted to go to see her once the boys came home from school. Prepped the food and put it in the oven on automatic timer so it came on whilst we were out and it was smelling delicious by the time we got back, I then just prepped some carrots, menfolk had processed peas (I hate them), and I had green beans. I then quickly put the jam and cream filling in the Victoria sponge and that was dessert. Haven’t got a clue what we will be eating tonight though, will organise that at some point today.

Did the chores I wanted to get done yesterday when I got in from work – we had yet another nightmare day yesterday so busy not helped by the fact that someone went sick yesterday and we already have someone else off sick, the boss is on 2 weeks leave and the supervisor was working at a different office yesterday – but she then made arrangements to come back when they realised how short staffed we were. I didn’t get chance to get a break at all from the desk from when I arrived until I left – I was feeling really dehydrated – although we do have water on the desks, we’re not allowed hot drinks. Hoping for the rest of my colleagues it eases off a bit today and tomorrow.

Today I will be cracking on with the chores – I have a huge pile of ironing – but that’s because the weather’s been good I’ve been washing a load every night and getting it dry the next day on the line, so the dirty wash basket is practically empty – that’s unheard of for this time in the week! Need to do the housework to – will just potter along and get it done.

Slept much better again last night – hoping this will continue, did have times yesterday when I felt rather unsettled but wasn’t too bad.

    Keep safe and well x

JO a new car , lovely .I have had vauxhalls for the last couple of cars, they were corsas though, , small and nippy and perfect for the DDs to learn to drive in :D

Dd2 has overslept this morning , Ive woken her up and made her some toast and packed her lunch up, she says she's going to overlay every morning now :rotfl:

Day off for me today , so it will be a round of food shopping , washing and cleaning. Also need to take DDs new computer back to the shop, she's been saving for a long time to get one and she bought one on Sunday , got it home to find the A key didn't work , she took it back and got a new one and that one has a fault on the space bar  so I'm going to take it back today while I'm out.

It looks beautiful and sunny , I'm sat in bed with a cuppa and I can see right down the valley , roof tops , fields and trees , perfect . hopefully will have time for a walk

Have a good day everyone xx

    Morning :hello:

I know I'm supposed to eat normally so I can get used to these fake teeth, but it's hard work. If I'm eating anything that requires proper chewing, I take it out :D I feel a bit weird doing this in front of other people so I only do it when I'm by myself. Most of the time I opt for soup, mash, noddles, etc. The weight is coming off at a fab rate, I'll have a flat stomach in no time :rotfl:

Misty here this morning, I love it like this. I can get on with the gardening without getting hot and bothered :D I was only out there for an hour yesterday and I got lots done. I have to put some canes along the chicken fence and put some netting up, Cleo keeps escaping onto my veg patch. She doesn't eat the onion or garlic leaves, but when the beans go in she'll gobble in them up in five seconds flat.

I've sorted a load of stuff to go in the loft, I'll get that up there tomorrow. I can't manage it today, I twisted round yesterday and felt a twinge in my leg, it's playing up this morning. I tried to put my sock on and couldn't reach, I almost cried with frustration :o I've stretched it out and taken brufen, it's easing already.

I started making a baby blanket, miss tru liked it so has claimed it :D I'll make it bigger than intended and she can have it for her birthday.

I'm on greenhouse-readying and pot-sorting duties today, best get on :D Have a good day.

    Morning all,

JackieO. A new car, how exciting. So pleased for you. I love the smell of a new car.

I'm going to see my Mom today in the retirement home. Its the first time ive seen her since November (I think) and it will be the first time ive seen her in the retirement home.

Now, I am over analysing things (as I do frequently). Ive decided she will either :

    Insult me,
    Not remember me,
Not recognise me (ive got golden blonde hair now which I hate),
Or she might just be nice like she was in November (but that was in front of my daughter and youngest son).

I'd better make a move, housework can wait till I get back.

    Have a great day all,

    Morning all,

Pollyanna - It's a Friary, where the Carmelite monks live amongst other things. It's very peaceful and mum liked to visit there (probably because they have a lovely tea shop), so we had her scattered there.

So after the van trouble yesterday morning, got in from work to find DH had a Penalty charge notice for parking in Wickes car park when we went to watch a friend's band play. We had been told it was fine to park there! I am waiting to see if the band members and other friends have tickets too. I do wonder what is going to go wrong next!

Still a bit foggy at the moment. I couldn't believe how many idiots were driving without lights on the way to work this morning.

Got to pop to the bank and pick up some bread etc in a short while.

    Chicken for tea tonight.

    Have a good day :)

    Morning all!

I'm totally loving life at the moment I must say, although major wedding dress wobble yesterday, have ordered a new one and decided to return the one I had bought... eek. So need to go to town to take that back this weekend, Sunday, I think.

Getting back into the OS swing of things in a big way, cooking as much from scratch as possible. Tonight is quorn and broccoli bake. A new recipe and a WW one so we'll see how that turns out, the spinach and cheese enchiladas I did the other day were amazing!

Seeing my dad tomorrow for dinner which I'm looking forward to, then I just want to hibernate for a while.

    Hope everyone is okay.

    Morning to all

Nice and bright here again, load of washing in but can't get it on the line as the fields have been muck spread and it's smelling so will hang it inside.
Food shopping done at 8am this morning, along with collecting a few bits I needed from the other shops in town - including a new flask for my OH as his current one has about had it. Luckily it was on sale at £14.99 reduced from £29.99 and we couldn't find it cheaper online, so he will be glad when he gets back.
Just done a little paperwork this morning, and now off to sort out the tourist information paperwork with my MIL for the holiday cottages they have.
Need to do some housework today, possibly the ironing and plant some seeds ready to go on our allotment also.

Tea tonight is sausages and veg with onion gravy :T
jackieo - how exciting a new car :) also very sorry to hear about your DD's FIL, best wishes to all! It's an awful thing and I pray we find a cure as soon as possible!!

camelot1001 - hope it all goes back together OK, would love to see a picture once it is done!

Right time to sign off and get on with my next few jobs, hoping to get out on the trail for a run later today.

    Happy Thursday :j
Christmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:
