Tenant insurance

Moving into a new property soon and the paperwork says I need to have Tenant insurance. I am completely stumped! The estate agent offer it but its more than I wanted to pay so looking elsewhere. Its so confusing. Can anyone please explain to me what to do. Do I need building insurance or just contents? Ive found a quote for 4.xx a month which seems ok but I dont know if it covers "tenant insurance" and not just contents. Some insurance wants to know how much it would cost to rebuild the house, I have no idea how to find out!
Why cant things just be straightforward
Ive never had insurance before so Im struggling.
Thanks in advance

You need tenants insurance to cover your contents, and possibly accidental damage to the property/LL's possessions for which you could be charged. eg

If it is a condition of the tenancy and the agent (usually!) refuses to grant the tenancy till you have it, buy it, then once your tenancy is signed, cancel the insurance if you don't want it within the 14 day cooling off period. Check before buying if there is an admin fee for cancelling!
Agents earn commission from selling these insurance policies to tenants........0 -
So contents insurance isnt the same as tenants insurance? I was hoping to get a baby Oleg hehe! but that is with contents insurance.
Yes I figured the agents earned money on it as it seems higher than others and has extra fees (homelet)0
