Is it commonly done? Do you work in bhte building industry?
sure you can.. and I work plastering if somehow wallpaper removal causes the skin of plaster to come of, then again you can skim... all it needs is pva and a thin coat of bonding to stop suction then skim as normal... as long as the walls are in a good shape and not too crumbling, no problem of skimming on them
  • We have/had lime plaster in all our rooms. We've stripped the wallpaper with no great difficulty (just make sure you don't keep the steam stripper in the same area of the wall for too long), but after that we've ended up treating each room differently.

In the kitchen we had it plasterboarded and skimmed (made it easier to achieve a 'straight' wall for the units to be fastened to).

In the dining room the plaster was in poor condition, and it was cheaper to have the whole lot skimmed than to have bits of it patched.

In the living room it was in pretty good condition, so we painted directly on to the wall - it isn't perfect, but at the end of the day it's an old house and it would be unrealistic to expect the walls to be perfect.

In the bedroom we used lining paper and then painted on top.

There are pro's and con's with every method.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. I'll be trying to stip some wallpapper this week once the electrician sorts out a supply for me and cuts off all points which are not needed. I'll let you know how I get on.

OK....I've been doing some wallpaper stripping and here are a couple of pics:

This looks a little worse than it actually is with the area where the 'skim' has come off being pretty superficial.

This is another aread in the same room where I got a better result.

    What do you guys think?
