Help with strange noise coming from car (after clutch change)

Evening,
Hopefully some kind person out there will be able to help me with my problem.
I bought a ford fusion 2003 1.4 manual about 3 weeks ago. It had 12 months Mot and had just had a service.
Last weekend my clutch went and I was lucky that the garage covered the cost because it wasn't covered with the warranty.
The clutch was replaced today and I collected the car this evening. Since then have noticed a strange sound (which wasn't there before)
The best way to describe it is that it sounds like someone blowing over a bottle, like wind. It seems to happen when I take my foot off the accelerator. I am going to call the garage tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone on here may be able to point me in the right direction or if they had also had this problem.
Sorry about the vagueness of the noise description.
Thanks in advance for any advice your able to give.

Well..... Logic dictates the clutch or the way it was changed is responsible.

  • My thoughts too, I just hope that it is and that they will sort it.

I've never changed a clutch in a FWD car, so this may be irrelevant, but when changing the clutch in a RWD car you need to be very careful to centre it properly using a mandrel before tightening everything up. Get it wrong, and you get some nasty vibration. The 'wind over a bottle' effect might be some resonance which happens on the over-run, caused by a poorly-centred clutch.

If the garage are being decent about it, let them sort it.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.

Probably a pipe disconnected when they disturbed the engine, they usually let the engine dangle down until the gearbox will pull off, the movement sometimes disconnects/breaks wires & pipes.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

  • Hiya, just thought I would update this as I took the car to the garage yesterday and they said the drive shaft was out of alignment, 15 mins on a ramp and it was sorted.
    Thanks for the replies.
