Good ole Spirit *note hint of sarcasm*- I worked for that company for a while and was under a pub that was bought out by Orchid...
Spirit have a 13 week probationary period, which means that they "have the right to terminate employment without recourse to the full Company Disciplinary Proceedure" during this time.
They may feel that you are not what they want at the pub for whatever reason- Sorry I have to say this, as most pubs always need staff and are rarely overstaffed. It could be that this pub is suffering financially though and this is why Spirit have sold it at such a late stage in their sale of pubs- they couldn't find anyone to buy it!
The hours of work are as and when the needs of the business require you, which could be upto 48hours a week, 6 days a week, with all the other legislation thrown in of minimum 11hours break in every 24hours (which includes other jobs you do and your boss has to be aware of this and take it into consideration.....), yada yada. Or it could be not at all.
Unfortunatley the 13 weeks probationary period wins over everything else, so my friend, you are without much to fight with. Best off finding another pub, where the tips are good and the company is worth working for. Avoid Orchid.... (they bought about 250 pubs from Spirit, last year)0
