Hey,
I was supposed to be working today at my part time job in a local pub.
When i got there 15 minutes before my shift like i was supposed to my manager called me into her office. And said "there is no easy way to say this but we going to have to let you go because we have to many staff"
The pub changed hands 2 weeks ago from spirit group to a private ownership, and we were all told our jobs were safe. I have a letter from spirit saying that the new owners were continuing all the staffs employment.
Ive been working there about 6-7 weeks so i know i was included in this.
What can and should i do???

unfortunately if the work isn't there or if the amount of staff is costing too much then they will let people go.The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

You're still working under the old one then - what does that say?:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A

If it's bar work, I'm guessing that chances are you may not have a contract. Also, only because it may make a difference, were you paid on the books or cash in hand?
If you have any kind of contract and you were paid through the books on PAYE then as a matter of courtesy if nothing else then they shopuld have given you a weeks notice, but if your contract doesn't stipulate a minimum amount of hours you are contracted to work then this in itself is pretty pointless as they wouldn't have to provide you with hours in that week, or pay you any lieu of notice.
I'm sorry to say it but I don't think there is much you can do.0 -
You have very few employment rights because you do not have one year of continuos employment. Do you have a contract? If yes, what are your contracted hours?SSB0

Yes they can. What they can't do is change their conditions of employment under TUPE but they can make you redundant.0 -
With over one month's employment, I believe you are entitled to one week's notice.
Could be more if your T&C indicated longer period when originally taken on.0
