Resolving Host

Sorry folks, back again.

While I have got things working, I keep having this problem. Reading up I see that maybe fixed IP addresses for each network item could be the answer?

If so can someone point me in the right direction to do this, haven't played with IP. Addresses in a good while.

Does this relate to a previous thread? If it does then you'd be better just posting there, if not then rather more explanation is required.

    OK
Had problems getting homeplugs I had working, got some new ones, including wi-fi from Solwise. Still showing noisy network, but working and better speed, however, from time to time keep having problems connecting and Chrome shows Resolving Host in bottom LH corner. Tried removing plugs to eliminate noise problem, but have not managed to sort it, feel I may have noisy mains, but no expert on that.

Have you tried Firefox or IE I don't use chrome(nor will I) but it seems that you are (I am guessing perhaps) are experiencing DNS problems somewhere but it appears that you have too many threads for folks to decide which problem you want sorting .... as an aside are you in Spain now or Donny , plus are you using the same device with the same settings on your tcp/ip adapter for each. Set your device to use a static DNS server eg google's or opendns's and just use the router/gateway or whatever for just an IP address.

Given the problem you describe, no, that won't make any difference.

These should just plug in and work, but if you think it might be an IP issue try flushing the DNS:

ipconfig /flushdns - or something similar.

Is yours an old house / new house? Maybe your wiring won't support it? Especially if you have tried 2 sets of plugs and neither work.

You could always post your problems on overclockers forums as there are a load of IT geeks who may help you out.

In one of your threads, :). did you mention light/dimmer timers?

Perhaps someone with more knowledge than me could say if these can cause a 'noisy' main?

    Possibly leading to your problems.
    Move along, nothing to see.

In simple terms all I want is a constant reasonable speed at both ends of our home. Working one time, and then not the next, is driving me nuts.
I have tried with most plugs either switched off or out, but now read they have to be out, so I will start at one end and remove every plug apart from the homeplugs to see if I can identify what may be causing noise.

Yes I have tried IE and safari! but not Firefox recently and while not finding a message, the wi-fi connection will not work. Re-booting sometimes clears it, but not always. It is the inconsistency which is hard to comprehend.

I would suggest that either you have one or more defective homeplugs, or something in your wiring system is making a lot of electrical noise that is causing an issue.

Homeplugs don't like extension leads, especially multi socket ones - they need to be plugged into the main socket.

I've heard they also don't like going across some types of consumer units, i.e you have a second unit linked to your main unit. However, my garage is connected this way and it doesn't seem to affect the homeplug I have in there.

You could try switching everything electrical off and see what the signal is like across your mains. Then switch things on one by one to see if anything causes significant problems.

OK - I have spent the last few hours playing musical chairs with plugs.

I tried to keep it simple so just used the two matching plugs non wi-fi. Both are plugged into wall sockets. Eventually sorted that if I attach either of my Belkin Surgemaster extensions, then I got noise (a cheaper one is fine!). I left the wi-fi socket plugged into the other side of the room, and got a theoretical clean connection. However the wi-fi was not working without the lan cable attached, so replaced the 2nd of the matching pair with the wi-fi version, into the same socket showing OK, yes you have guessed, it shows red and amber, but does give me a wi-fi connection. If I plug the 2nd of the match pair to the second socket on this line, it comes up green. Getting a speed of about 10 Mbps both on wired and wi-fi, which is useable, provided it stays constant.

I think a call to Solwise on Monday is the next step, but it leaves me with none surge protection desktop, etc.,
