Best place for jeans

  • I got an amazing pair of jeans and another of jeggings from New Lok the other day. Had a pair I liked from Next (leaked dye hideously but fitted well and only £20), and was intending to rebuy them but they only went and changed them!! Labels etc the same but the 'new' ones are so different. Next range of jeans was really poor in all my local stores including Lakeside at the weekend :(

I tried some New look ones yesterday I guess I would be bang on trend if I wanted to wear them round my knees they were awful, I have a love hate relationship with next as i have size's ranging from an 8 to a 14 with them it's never been consistence sizing.
I remember a few years ago a woman from DP told me that some of there suppliers changed to generous sizing so if you wanted a 14 you really needed a size 12 as it made women feel better being in a smaller size, it just makes life harder who really cares I think we all just want something to fit properly if the number on the label really bugs we will just cut it out, I prefer shoes I don't have this hassle with shoes :)

comfort could do with a size 10 round the waist and 12 round the thighs.

Buy a size 12 and get the waist taken in?

I am not an off the peg shaped person and so just use the local seamstress to do alterations with the exception of suits/ jackets that I get made to measure as its not cost effective to get the top half of a jacket retailored -v- MTM
  • The Uniqlo Ultra stretchy jeans. They are now my holy grail jeans! I have so much trouble finding jeans because if I can get them over my thighs and bum then they are way too loose around the waist. These are AMAZING! And they offer free hemming if they are too long.
    No more goo hoarding!

  • They're expensive but I find the J by Jasper Conran Jeans are the ONLY ones that fit me in any way shape or form. I have a very traditional hourglass figure which means although my waist is only a 10 my hips and bum are a 12 with my boobs being a 12/14. Like I say the Jasper Conrans aren't cheap but they DO fit incredibly well adn they seem to last. My eyes watered at paying £50 for a pair of jeans to begin with but they're often reduced by a tenner and they're completely worth it. They also seem to make my bum and thighs look a bit smaller therefore slimming down my whole sillouette.
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?

I have the exact same problem! I just have to put up with them being too big on the waist, or get ones too tight for my thighs and wear them in in the hopes that they'll stretch out in the thighs from body heat.

I bought some jeggings from H&M last week, I'm a size 12 on the bottoms, though usually get a 14 to accommodate my thighs, and I had to buy these jeggings in a size 16, and they're still a bit too tight on the waist!! When my OH got home, I held them up and asked what size he thought they were, and he said a 10 or a 12, they looked way too tiny to be a 16! No wonder we all have insecurities!!

I can't believe you ladies in smaller sizes than me have any problems, but it just goes to show everyone is different.

I am a size 18/20 and my shape is sausage. Generally to get the waist to fit they are too big on the hips and legs.

Asda bootcut £10 jeans are just amazing IMHO. The £14 ones are too wide round the waste (or just round the back of the waste to be precise - like a giant denim funnel sticking out in the small of my back!) and a completely different fit, so I'm glad the cheaper ones are better for me.
  • I have exactly the same problem, my waist is a lot smaller than my thighs.

I have one pair of New Look jeans that fit (boot cut style), they are super stretchy and from their "shaper" range. I have only been able to get one of these pairs that fit - I think they may have stopped making the cut of the ones that fit me. (I don't remember the price, but I don't think they were more than £15 or £20)

I have Levi's curve ID - I went in and tried on several pairs in the different shapes - they do three different body shapes. I bought one of these in the Levi store at a cost of over £70 (skinny), but got an identical second pair from TK Maxx for £35, and also another pair (straight leg) also in TK Maxx, £35. I see them in there quite regularly, so it might be worthwhile going to a Levi store to try the different ones on and if you get a good fit keep an eye out in TK Maxx.

French Connection used to do jeans that fit me, but I think over the years they have changed their designer/supplier as the ones in store no longer fit - but again, you can every now and again pick them up in TK Maxx - the last pair I got were only £9.99 in the clearance section, but again they're worth trying as thy pop up in store occasionally.

I hope you find something that fits - it can be a nightmare!

I have the same problem as you OP and hate having to buy jeans.

If I find a pair that fit ok round the bum/hips but are a little big on the waist I find holding them against other pairs of the same size sometimes throws up a smaller waisted pair. It is quite amazing the discrepancy within the same size/style.

M&S are pretty good. My favourites at the moment which I don't have to wear a belt with were £10 from Sainsburys TU range.
