insurance want money 2 yes later!

I would like some advice please. I had a minor accident nearly 2 years ago. I chose not to go through my insurance so I didn't lose my no claims. I paid £330 to the garage mending the other persons car and thought the matter was dealt with. I have recently had my old insurance company contact me saying that they have had a claim for another £151 as apparently the money I paid before was only the excess and the vat on the bill, and it has only just turned up on their paperwork. I was told when I paid the bill that it was the full amount, so as far as I was concerned the matter was finished. I have tried to pay this extra amount, but as I wish to pay half on a credit card, they are having trouble taking payment as they say they have no means of processing a card.
Firstly, can they ask for payment nearly 2 yrs later, when the mistake was not my fault, but the fault of the garage and the insurance?
And secondly, can they make me pay by bank transfer, even though I want to pay by card? I paid the original bill to the garage by card over the phone, so if they had got it right I would have paid the whole amount on card anyway.
Thanks for any advice

So by the sounds of it, you didnt pay the third party claim in full and so they have claimed off of your insurance and thus you have a fault claim now on your file.
They cannot make you pay it but they can dictate the terms of repayment if you want to pay it. Of cause if you chose not to pay it you'd need to inform your insurers since that you had miss declared the claim as non-fault where as it is actually fault and the adjusted NCD and then pay the difference in your premium.
Of cause you could just do your current insurers and hope your prior one doesnt check their records which would be unlikely but of cause your current insurers may tell them too.
Likewise you could widen your fraud by not telling any other insurers and just hope no one checks CUE or any other data exchange and then find your failure to declare a fault claim0 -
Is it an individual you are trying to pay but they can't work out how to accept credit cards? If so, it is very easy to pay an individual using a credit card in paypal but there will be fees x0

As far as I know any accidents would need to be declared to the insurer either at the time of the incident or at the renewal (depending on t&cs) whether you choose to pay for the damage yourself or not.
You appear to have accepted responsibilty for the damage by making the payment for repairs so it would be an at fault claim which could affect your current policy if you have not declared it.
What I don't understand is that they say that the initial payment you made was for an xs fee?? If you are not going through the insurers then no xs is involved.
If the other driver has claimed through their insurance then your insurer or you may be liable for the xs fee if you are at fault.
This seems to have turned into a bit of a minefield for you.
You might be better contacting the old insurer - if this money is owed you can let them pay the £151 or you might even try to get them to repay the £330 that you initially paid as it seems that this will be recorded as a claim against your policy anyway.0
