HP Envy Windows 8 Battery Drain

Hi All

Bought an HP envy x2 convertible laptop for my wife in December.
Since then have notived that after charging to 100%, three or four days later the battery is totally dead after shutting down.

I took it back to Currys and they sent it off to the repair team who said the hardware was fine and it was just a symptom of Windows 8 that it doesnt shut down properly.

They suggested leaving the laptop in two parts which would solve it slightly which obviously defeats the point!

Anyway, spoke to customer services as if i knew about this i would have just bought her a tablet rather than a windows 8 machine.

They said that if there was nothing wrong with the machine and it was a windows problem there was nothing they would do. They will not offer an exchange or refund.

Bit lost really as wife wont use it as eveytime she wants to she has to put it back on charge.

Is this a normal symptom of Windows 8?

I was told the laptop has something called a UEFI Bios which is hardwired to the hardware so can be updated but wont totally resolve the problem?

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

I wouldn't say it was a normal symptom of W8. There was a thought that hybrid shutdown used up battery power but this has proved to be negligible.
You say it lasted you 3 or 4 days, this doesn't really give any indication of how good or bad it is. How many hours was it used for? I'd be lucky to get 2 days out of mine, but, that would be maybe 2-4 hours use. That also depends on the type of usage.

Just to be sure, you are shutting it down and not just putting it in sleep mode by pressing the power button?
